Description

Disseminating your research and keeping up to date

Dr Miggie Pickton and Nick Dimmock, Research Support

The traditional means of disseminating research and keeping up to date, through published articles, books and conferences, are effective ways of reaching the scholarly community. However, in the current research environment there is increasing pressure on researchers to demonstrate impact within and beyond academia. No longer is it sufficient to simply scan the latest table of contents in a favoured journal or wait for a research colleague to send a copy of their latest paper.

This session will describe some of the tools that may be used to disseminate research to a wider audience AND introduce new ways of keeping up to date with the research activity of others. It will introduce a range of social media, including professional networking tools (e.g. LinkedIn; Academia.edu; ResearchGate; Mendeley), blogs (e.g. Blogger; WordPress) and microblogs (e.g. Twitter). In each case the focus will be on their application to research and the research process.

This workshop is open to any early career researcher & research students at the University of Northampton. Further information is available from Simone Apel (simone.apel@northampton.ac.uk; 01604 893418).
